LED Technology
LED (or Light Emitting Diode) lighting is one of the most recent advances in signage technology. Appearing to be very small bulbs, LED's are actually solid chemical compounds that emit light when electricity is passed through them; with different compounds producing different light ranges.
LEDs have a number of benefits over conventional lighting systems and can be used in many applications from corporate identity displays through to lightboxes.
Benefits include:
- Long lifetime - up to 100,000 hours (or 50-100 times longer than typical incandescent bulbs)
- High light output - as bright as traditional lamps
- Very low space requirements
- Super efficient - almost all power is converted to light, not heat
- Very low power requirements (approximately 80% less than comparable neon)
- Environmentally friendly as they contain no mercury
