Sogo Department Store Façade
Vertigo was contracted by Sogo in Hong Kong to develop a range of signage positions. The signage was media orientated and included approximately 90 lightbox units for both exterior and interior use, and seven large-format, wall mounted billboards involving a combined display area of over 1,800m2. The client's aim was to capitalize on the enormous potential the store holds: it occupies the prime location at the junction of Hennessy and Yee Wo Streets in Causeway Bay - reputedly the busiest pedestrian junction in the world.
Vertigo designed a special range of edge-lit lightboxes in line with the building's design aesthetic. Edge-lit technology was ideally suited to the task as they provide superior illumination qualities with a very slim profile that allows them to be used in narrow pedestrian thoroughfares.
The large format panels were individually designed as integrated features of the building's facade to dominate the view from the junction below. The seven 22x12 m structures incorporate Vertigo's face tensioning system that maintains taut, wrinkle-free graphics while also allowing fast, easy changes. The billboards boast a lighting system that was designed based on photometric analysis of each site.
The project has been a huge success for Sogo. The total capital outlay for the signage was in the region of US$ 1million while the projected annual revenues are estimated at being 30% greater than this
