Beijing Light Railway Network
Vertigo was contracted by media house MPI to plan, design and manufacture its network of media display units for Beijing's new Light Railway. The project covered all 16 stations of the network and involved the integration of over 1,100 lightboxes. The project was completed in March 2003 and was the first to utilise the stripe free, energy efficient lighting technology on such large scale.

Vertigo's involvement began with the development of integration plans for the signage at each station. Potential foot-traffic flows were assessed and used to plan the quantities, types and locations of the displays. A unique range of cladding and mounting systems was designed for the various lightbox sizes. These had to allow for effective media display while also reflecting the design aesthetics of the various station environments.

After MPI and the Light Railway architectural representatives had approved the designs and integration plans, the units went into production. Our project management team coordinated the delivery and installation of the units, in a process that had to integrate with the general construction of the stations and fit with their timeframes. The manufacture and installation phase of the project was completed in two months
