Cathay Pacific 'Three Sails' Icon
The 'Three Sails' landmark is located at the approach to Hong Kong's International Airport. The piece was a combined effort between Cathay's advertising agency, McCann Eriksson, who developed the general conceptual direction, and Vertigo, who provided the planning, design and construction expertise. Completed in April 2002, the landmark is the first high-tension fabric structure in Hong Kong and has ably provided the client with the high impact they required.
Vertigo's involvement in the project began with the identification of a suitable site for the structure; one that was close to the airport and highly visible to its users. Once established, the legislative requirements and airport authority regulations had to be addressed and allowances made in the engineering and lighting designs. Manufacture of the structural components was carried out in Vertigo's manufacturing facility, while site preparation and final installation was carried out by our installation team.
